Skye Birds

20th December 2018

as we reach the end of the year I am doing final proof reading of the 3rd edition of Skye Birds which will hopefully be available in February 2019.  It follows the same format as previous editions but there are a number of changes the most significant of which are some 20 new species which have been recorded since 2009.  The new edition contains colour plates of a number of these.  The 3rd edition extends to 195 pages and has again been printed by our local printer Strath Print.  The image shows the covers, with the front the Cuckoo and Meadow Pipit image which many of you are familiar with.  The rear cover shows the Lesser Yellowlegs which was a recent visitor to Broadford Bay and the first record for the area.  Once we get it finalised and back from the printer details of availability will be posted on the website.

Highland Bird Report 2016

The annual bird report for Highland for the year 2016 has just been published by Highland Branch SOC.  Many of the records contained in this website are included in the report.  Sean Morris from Rum wrote the Lochaber summary in the report and ‘yours truly’ wrote the Skye and Lochalsh summary.  Several colour images have been reproduced and include several from Bob and Martin Benson.  I have a small number of copies available at £9, otherwise contact Highland Branch SOC at
