The objective of these pages is to keep everyone, locals and visitors alike, up to date with what birds are about. It is therefore dependent on everyone contacting me as quickly as possible to ensure I can update the site so that others might benefit from the observations. In the event of rarities being found, details could be passed on to other website networks. Details would also be passed on the Highland Recorder Al McNee who might require a full description before the record was accepted. This website will very much be locally focussed but recognises the existing requirements of the SOC local recorder system and other networks such as Birdline Scotland . The intention is that Skye-Birds.com will enhance these systems. Skye-Birds.com will also have complete discretion as to what information is added to these pages. In particular, any details which might reveal breeding sites of vulnerable species will be excluded. No information will be published which may in any way put birds at risk.

Puffin

Further report of a Puffin in Lochalsh off Reraig which is extremely unusual. This follows other reports of birds close inshore on the Skye coast prompting questions as to whether we are seeing some responses to food shortages? |

Bee Eater
Unconfirmed report from visitor of a Bee Eater on overhead wires at Gillen, Waternish NG266608 - sorry no further details and if anyone out there can have a look it would be helpful! It is the time of year when it is perfectly possible. |

Greylag Goose
Historically birds have always bred in the Dunvegan area so 4 pairs with 9 goslings was encouraging. In addition there was a non-breeding flock of 16. A report of 30+ on nearby Isay further reflects the good numbers in the area. |

Corncrake

Report of a calling bird at Elgol - the first report in the area for 'years'. Generally speaking birds are pretty scarce in the south of Skye so this report from a former haunt is especially welcome. |

White-tailed Eagle
Report from Grace Yoxon of IOSF of blue tagged bird seen at Kilchrist Church and Loch Cill Chroisd in Strathaird on 8th, 9th and to-day. This is probably Blue T which has been in the general area for the last year. The attraction at the moment may be the young rabbits which are prolific in the area. |

Albino House Sparrow
Two separate reports of albino sparrows at Isle Ornsay - two young birds are albino and obviously part of the same brood - it is unusual enough to have a single albino but two in the same brood is exceptional. |
